USB-C to HDMI Adapter That Works Nicely with a MacBook Pro – Anker USB-C to HDMI 4K 60Hz Adapter Model A8312
Over the years I have tried a few USB-C to HDMI adapters to connect a MacBook Pro late 2016 to a 32-inch Samsung monitor S32D850. Back in 2016 I got the Apple adapter, model A1621, and it worked fine for a while.
Then after a few macOS updates it started behaving erratically. Sometimes the monitor would not detect a signal. Other brands I tried had similar issues.
When stumbling upon the Anker USB-C to HDMI 4K 60Hz Adapter on Amazon, I decided to give it a try even though it meant one of the four USB-C ports would be occupied by the connection to the monitor.
I have used this Anker adapter for six months and so far it has done its job well. My MacBook Pro late 2016 detects the Samsung monitor right away when connected through this accessory. I normally use the 32-inch monitor as the main display when connected to the laptop.
The Anker adapter is also smarter than the other adapters I have used in that the laptop recognizes when the Samsung monitor is turned off and reverts back to the retina screen as the main display.
The Samsung monitor information screen shows a refresh rate of 60Hz at the maximal resolution of 2560×1440.
